Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama Opens Sept. 4 at Museum of Pell City
PELL CITY, Ala. — The Museum of Pell City will host the 2025 Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama from Sept. 4 through Sept. 27, featuring 32 original works of art created by Alabama students who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf-blind.
The annual exhibit, which travels to locations across the state, provides an opportunity for these students to showcase their unique perspectives through painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture. Each piece reflects the creativity, skill, and resilience of its artist.
“These young artists use courage and imagination to share how they see the world,” said Erica Grieve, Museum of Pell City coordinator. “The results are moving, inspiring, and one-of-a-kind.”
The Helen Keller Art Show honors the life and legacy of Alabama native Helen Keller, who overcame blindness and deafness to become an author, lecturer, and advocate for people with disabilities worldwide. Just as Keller found new ways to communicate and express herself, the students in this show use art as a powerful form of self-expression and connection.
The exhibit is coordinated by the Shelby County Arts Council and partners with organizations including the Alabama Department of Education and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Since its founding in 1983, the show has helped raise awareness of the abilities and achievements of students with visual impairments.
Museum hours: Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.
